Bacterial Vaginosis Pregnancy - It Can Be Harmful
Bacterial vaginosis is very common in women who are in the childbearing age. It’s an infection that causes inflammation of the vagina and a vaginal discharge. This discharge is usually a milky white or sometimes yellow or gray in color. Around one to five women can have this infection at some point during pregnancy, and around 10-64% of women can have this type of infection at any given time in their lives. This form of infection is caused by an overgrowth of normal bacteria in the vagina, but can be harmful, especially during a bacterial vaginosis pregnancy.
Bacterial vaginosis during pregnancy can be extremely harmful. It can cause a woman to deliver prematurely; it can increase the risk of a miscarriage and a uterine infection. During pregnancy if a women is to have a c-section or an abortion while also having a case of bacterial vaginosis, it highly increases the chances for that women to have a pelvic infection.
Even if a women is suffering from a case of this type of infection, during anytime that they maybe exposed to any type of sexually transmitted disease, that’s including HIV, it is more highly that they will attract that disease. It’s known that doctors and experts are unable to determine just one cause that causes bacterial vaginosis.
It is known however that there are many different species of bacteria that live in the vagina naturally and at anytime that these bacteria become imbalanced can cause an infection in the vagina and can produce a foul discharge. In a lot of cases this infection may go away on it’s own, however if it does not, the best thing to do is consult your doctor. He or she is going to be able to prescribe the best possible medications for you, also remember that in some cases what you think could be a bacterial vaginosis infection maybe something different like a yeast infection or trichomonas.
If you are suffering from a case of bacterial vaginosis during pregnancy, remember to begin treatment for it right away. Even though the majority of woman who have this form of infection during pregnancy still have perfectly normal pregnancies, there is always a chance of delivering prematurely or a chance that your baby maybe extremely underweight. Do not take the chance of seeing if it will heal on its own, have it treated right away.
